桂林理工大学成立于1956年，位于世界著名的风景旅游城市—广西桂林，是一所历史悠久的国立高等学校，是一所以工学为主，理、管、文、经、法、艺、农8大学科门类，研究生教育、本科生教育、高等职业教育和成人教育协调发展的多科性高等学校。
学校现有桂林屏风、桂林雁山、南宁安吉、南宁空港四个校区，校园总面积3300余亩。学校下设19个学院，有68个本科招生专业，37个硕士学位授权点，3个博士后科研流动站，6个博士学位授权点。材料科学、化学、工程学和环境生态学、地球科学5个学科进入ESI世界学科排名前1%。15个专业通过工程教育专业认证（评估），2个专业通过国际专业认证。在职教职员工2600多人，各类全日制在校生46000余人。
学校以坚持开放办学，推进国际交流与教育合作，提升国际影响力和竞争力为目标，积极构建全方位、多层次、多形式的对外交流与合作体系。学校先后与美国、英国、澳大利亚、日本、俄罗斯、马来西亚、越南等30多个国家的100多所高校建立了友好合作关系，与其中50余所高校签订了学术交流、人才培养与科研合作协议。外国留学生教育工作稳步开展，至今已培养了来自60多个国家的各类留学生7000余人。
Guilin University of Technology (GUT), is a state owned university founded in 1956, situated in the world-famous scenic city of Guilin in Guangxi Province. GUT has developed into a university of multiple disciplines. With Engineering taking the lead there are a total of 8 primary disciplines in development, including science, management, liberal, economics, law, arts and agriculture. The education of postgraduate, undergraduate, higher vocation and adult continuing education have been developing harmoniously.
Covering more than 220 hectares, GUT has four campus: Guilin Pingfeng, Guilin Yanshan, Nanning Anji, and Nanning Konggang, and 19 colleges with 68 undergraduate programs, 37 Master authorizations, 3 Post-doctoral centers, as well as 6 Ph.D. authorizations.Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering and Environmental Ecology, and Earth Science have entered the top 1% of the ESI world discipline rankings. 15 majors have passed engineering education professional certification (evaluation), and 2 majors have passed international professional certification.Currently there are more than 2600 faculty and staff members, 46,000 full-time students in GUT.
For the purposes of promoting the international exchanges and cooperation, GUT has insisted on an opening-up policy, actively built an international cooperation system which is all-round, multi-level and in various forms. So far the university has established cooperative relations with over 100 colleges from 30 countries, including the United States, UK, Australia, Japan, Russia, Malaysia, Vietnam and so on. It also signed academic exchanges, personnel training and scientific research cooperation agreements with 50 famous universities. The international education has developed steadily- so far there are over 7000 students have had courses at GUT from more than 60 countries.
